Continuing Education

We are proud to be an NCBTMB provider. Upon completion of the class, graduates from this program will earn 100 continuing education hours. Completion of the class qualifies students to become a preferred provider through The Society for Oncology Massage.


2023 Class Dates

The 100-Hour: Oncology and Hospital Massage class includes six days (48 hours) of classroom lecture and hands-on training and 52 hours of clinical rotation treating patients during inpatient and outpatient clinics.

100-Hour Summer Class

  • June 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily
  • Registration Deadline: Thursday, May 11
  • Location: Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Campus
  • The clinical rotation period will start after June 11

100-Hour Fall Class

  • October 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily
  • Registration Deadline: Thursday, September 14
  • Location: Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Campus
  • The clinical rotation period will start after October 15

Oncology Massage Program Director

Karen Armstrong, LMT, BCTMB

Karen Armstrong is the current Manager of Integrative Medicine at Beaumont Health and since 2007, has been serving as the Manager of Clinical Massage and Program Director of Beaumont’s Oncology and Hospital Massage Class in Michigan. Ms. Armstrong and her staff of oncology-trained massage therapists offer clinical massage therapy in three hospital-based outpatient clinics as well as inpatient treatments.

Ms. Armstrong initiated several research projects and co-authored multiple published manuscripts. She is the current President of The Association of Massage Therapists in Healthcare, a member of the Massage Therapy Foundation Grant Review Committee, former Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM) board member, former Chairperson of Michigan's Board of Massage Therapy, a past president of the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards, and serves on many educational advisory boards and industry committees. She is a Recognized Education Provider and a Preferred Provider through S4OM. Ms. Armstrong is an adjunct instructor at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine teaching both medical students and residents about clinical massage.

Ms. Armstrong promotes the benefits of clinical massage to hospital and medical administration, faculty, the community, students, and patients. She frequently presents at community and hospital events. As an advocate for continuing education, Ms. Armstrong has completed many hours of training in various holistic modalities.


Co-Instructors

Heather Stauffer, L.M.T.

In 2002, Heather Stauffer completed 1,000 hours of class, clinic, and externship in massage and became a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). Heather started working at Beaumont Health’s Integrative Medicine department in 2004 treating oncology and multiple patient populations.

In 2008, Heather began teaching and helping students learn the foundation and skills to become massage therapists at Carnegie Institute in that same 1,000 Hour Massage Therapy Program she completed years before. In 2016, she joined Beaumont’s instructor team teaching the Oncology and Hospital Massage Program and supervising students during their clinical rotations. Heather is a Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM) recognized Education Provider.
